What we dislike about this logo: The character is a bit primitive (two dimensional) and doesn't "pop" out of the logo how we would like it to, it looks like it would appeal to a younger audience than a broader age group. The claws on the mascot look sharp which might might cause fear. The cyan color is a bit too colorful, perhaps a more subtle primary color would be better. Seeing a collar on the character throws us off a bit, it seems slightly out of place.

What we suggest: Add more complexities to the logo to make it really pop out. Target a broader audience and make the character appear more three dimensional. Choose a color other than cyan for the font and the shirt of the character, perhaps incorporating Maryland flag colors.
